Eurypegasus draconis

Today in Ichthyology, I learned about the Euryepagasus draconis, a species of sea horse that has large fins resembling wings.  What do you call a horse with wings? A Pegasus!  They also kind of resemble dragons, thus their scientific names.

Eurypegasus draconis is now my second favorite scientific name. My absolute favorite scientific name is still Anthopleura xanthogrammica, and really, that one is gong to be hard to beat.

Anthopleura xanthogrammica, the Giant Green Anemone

I am happy to be a T.A. for this class, since I am a total fish nerd and I'm already learning so much new stuff about fishes.

Do you know when it is appropriate to say "fishes" rather than just "fish" for the plural form of the word? It's okay I didn't know either.

Fish - is the plural form if there are multiple fish of the same species.

A school of fish.
Fishes - plural if there are multiple species of fish.

A school of fishes
