D.I.Y Dog Hoodie

Since my pour pitiful pootch has next to no hair, she loves wearing her dog sweaters. The problem is that they tend to wear out quickly, it's hard to find dog clothes in her size (she weighs 53 lbs: not exactly the usual market for dog clothes) and when I do find things in her size they are super expensive.

Today I decided to try to turn one of my old hoodies into a new coat for Anna. This hoodie ended up having a melted zipper due to some kind of weird dryer accident.

First step was to cut off the arms so they didn't hang too far down her legs. I also removed the toodie tie because that just seemed like it would a bad idea to leave around a dog as wild and crazy as Anna.

I cut the cuffs of the arms because I wanted to reattach them so they still looked like cuffs. I had to gather the arms a bit to make them fit, which just made them look like little capped sleeves when I was done.

I then cut off the zippers and sewed the front together. That was pretty much it and once I was done with the hoodie I tried it on Anna and found out that it ended up being a little too big.

Even though the hoodie was really snuggly looking it seemed to bother her when she was playing. So I ended up using the string I had took from the hood of the hoodie and threading it through the bottom so I could tie it up snug around her hips. This seemed to work well.

Once I was all done, I had one happy puppy! I really think the sweater turned out good. I can't wait to make her more of them. I think she will be one warm little doggie this fall and winter.
